Uganda Cranes forward Denis Omedi had fine debut for APR FC scoring from the penalty spot in their 2-0 victory over Emmanuel Okwi’s AS Kigali in the Heroes Cup semifinals on Tuesday.
Omedi, a January signing calmly converted from 12 yards to give APR FC the lead before substitute Ramadhan Niyibizi sealed the win in the 70th minute. Former SC Villa forward Hakim Kiwanuka also made his debut for APR FC, starting alongside Omedi before both were substituted in the 75th minute, along with Lamine Bah.
Experienced forward Emmanuel Okwi played the entire match for AS Kigali but couldn't inspire his side to a comeback. Fellow Ugandan international Taddeo Lwanga was an unused substitute for APR FC.
APR FC will now face Police FC in the final after Allan Kateregga, Ashraf Mandela and Eric Ssenjobe’s side edged past Rayon Sport in a 3-1 penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
Kateregga and Mandela started for Police FC, while Ssenjobe was not in the matchday squad. With Omedi and Kiwanuka impressing on debut, APR FC will be hopeful of securing silverware in the final showdown against a Police FC side boasting familiar Ugandan faces.
