Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has maintained that the race for the Betway Premiership could be decided on the final day of the season.
This season’s title race was took another twist on Sunday after Pirates secured a 2-1 win against table leaders and champions Sundowns, to cut their lead at the top of the 16 team league table to 14 points, though Pirates have played four matches less.
If Pirates manage to win their unplayed matches, they will reduce Sundowns lead to just three points. According to the former Esperance tactician, the PSL title is yet to be decided because both teams will still lose points in their remaining fixtures.
“I’m sure that both Pirates and Sundowns will still lose points because there are tough matches to play. Let’s hope we can minimise the losses as much as possible because it will be fantastic if we win all the matches until the end,” said Cardoso as quoted by FARPost.
“That will give us what we want. If not, we will have to cope with the points of Pirates but this championship will be played until the end, for sure. Resilience is an important capacity to play in the championship with 30 matches.”
He added: “Consistency is also a value that is important to have. Lack of motivation and focus will go completely in an opposite way. So what we have to do is obviously to play competitions that we have to play and make the best out of them.
“When we’re going to face our next championship match, we will play it like we’ve been doing. Play it like it’s the last one of our lives. There’s no other way to do it than to fight for three points until the end.”
Sundowns have so far won 19 matches, drawn one and lost three while Pirates have managed 14 wins, drawn one and suffered four defeats.
