Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi says it is unfortunate that SuperSport United stand in the Buccaneers' way to reach the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal.

Ncikazi spoke to the media in South Africa on Friday ahead of the match against SuperSport, opponents he described as very rough.

"We have had short preparations against a very good SuperSport. We know how they play. We just have to try and perform if we want to go to the next round."

Jose Riveiro's right hand man suggested that the Soweto giants would have preferred meeting another opponent.

"Unfortunately, we have to go past SuperSport to move to the next round. We cannot count on history. Our goal is to go past SuperSport. We know it will not be easy but it is possible," he said.

The Buccaneers have not been in the best of form in the league, as they lost 2-0 last week before coming back with a "smash and grab" 1-0 win over Chippa United in a midweek Betway Premiership game.
