Reliable defender Sandile Mthethwa has quit Orlando Pirates due to limited game time, the South Africa club has confirmed in a statement.
In a statement, Pirates admitted that coach Jose Riveiro could not guarantee Mthethwa more game time hence his decision to leave the club. “At 27 years old Mthethwa is entering his prime and whilst the technical team wanted him to stay – the guarantee of regular football was not possible,” the statement reads.
Mthethwa fell behind the pecking order in Pirates’ defence behind Nkosinathi Sibisi, Deano Van Rooyen and Paseka Mako. The defender signed for the Buccaneers in 2016 after spotting him during a youth tournament held in Durban alongside Brian Hlongwa and Thobela Sikhakhane.
The Soweto-based giants have also loaned out Katlego Otladisa to Sekhukhune United for the rest of the season. Pirates are the joint leaders of the Betway Premiership log table alongside Mamelodi Sundowns.
