Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has revealed his plans to impress coach Hugo Broos and regain his starting role in the Bafana Bafana squad for upcoming assignments.

The 28-year-old last represented South Africa national team in 2021 and was not involved as Bafana Bafana registered two crucial wins in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada and the USA.

Bafana first defeated Lesotho 2-0 before travelling away to beat Benin 2-0. With Broos preferring Evidence Makgopa, Lyle Foster, and Iqraam Rayners, Mabasa is now planning to score as many goals as possible to impress the Belgian coach for a recall.

“Probably consistency [has been missing in my game], I would say. I would love to score a lot more in a certain run of games,” Mabasa told SoccerBeat as quoted by FARPost. “Perhaps in a span of eight games, score like 15 goals, and make that decision easy that he has to choose me. Not for it to be as difficult as it has been.

“For now, he’s able to go with any striker that he’s picked [before]. There’s Lyle [Foster], there’s Evidence [Makgopa], there’s myself and Iqraam [Rayners]. We are all doing well in our own rights, we are scoring goals this season and last season as well.

“So, whoever he picks right now, it’s a bit of a difficult decision for him. But like I said, I want to be at a point where I make that decision easy for him through my performances. So, let my performances speak for me.

“In a span of eight games, let’s say I score 15 goals, there’s no way I wouldn’t be selected at the national team. My job is to try and make it easier for him.”

Pirates next league assignment will be against Polokwane City at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, April 5.
