Ghana’s aim to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco hangs by a thin thread as a slip will see them miss out on the tournament for the first time in 20-years. The Black Stars need two consecutive wins against Angola and Niger and hope that second placed Sudan suffer defeats in each of the last two matches.
The four time African champions are in Luanda as guests of Group F leaders Angola in the penultimate qualifier before drawing the curtain in Accra against Niger. Angola stunned Ghana by 1-0 at the last minute at the Accra Sports Stadium in the opening game and Palancas Negras boss Pedro Gonçalves admits that the West Africans chances of going to Morocco are extremely slim.
“For us, playing against Ghana is always special. Ghana is one of the best teams in African football, with exceptional players, particularly in midfield and attack.
“While Ghana is undoubtedly a strong contender, their chances of qualifying are low at the moment.
“They not only have to win but also depend on Sudan, who need only one point from two games to qualify. It’s a very tough challenge for Ghana.” Pedro Goncalves told Ghana Sports Page.
Otto Addo’s squad suffered a depletion following the withdrawal of eight key players but the German trained has since invited six new players as replacements.
Ghana sit in third on the table on 2 points - trailing second placed Sudan by five points and 10 away from leaders, Angola with Niger bottom after four matches.
