Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe believes they are on track to secure a spot to play in Confederation of African Football (Caf) competition for next season.
City are currently riding high on the 16-team league table, as they sit fourth with 31 points from 21 matches. They have managed eight wins, seven draws and suffered five defeats.
They missed out on a chance to move third, above Sekhukhune United, following their 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch at Danie Craven Stadium on Friday. Despite the outcome of the game against the Stellies, Mohafe is not ruling out a Caf spot for next season.
“Anything is possible in life, so if that appears to happen then let it be. Let’s go and fight as Polokwane City,” Mohafe told the media as quoted by idiskitimes. “No one can do that if we can’t do that and we will never know, if we can’t try it so rather go and try. We see where we fail and we see if we progress.
“Honestly speaking, last season we surprised ourselves when we qualified for the top eight. Even now, we are so surprised that we fighting for the third spot and I think with us being there that triggers the mentality of saying you can do it [qualify for CAF], then why not, let’s try to fight for it.”
Polokwane will next face Golden Arrows at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, March 12.
