Brentford and Leicester City each earned important victories away from home on Sunday in the English Premier League and it was African national team players who provided the decisive moments for their clubs to earn maximum points.
Morocco national team starlet Bilal El Khannouss continues to see his role grow with more frequent appearances in the XI for Leicester City and coach Ruud van Nistelrooy was rewarded for giving the playmaker another start against Tottenham. After Spurs took a 1-0 lead into halftime from Richarlison's goal, Jamie Vardy equalized for the visitors soon after the second half kicked off.
Then the scene was set for El Khannouss to be the hero. After receiving a pass from Bobby De Cordova-Reid in the 50th minute, the 20-year-old had plenty of space to drive towards the Tottenham penalty area before curling a low shot past Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. Leicester held on for a 2-1 victory to climb out of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Brentford clinched a result by the same score at Crystal Palace and Cameroon national team forward Bryan Mbeumo was among the scorers. The 25-year-old missed his penalty kick in the second half but was given a reprieve by VAR, allowing the former Troyes player to convert on his second attempt.
It is Mbeumo's 14th goal of the Premier League season, moving the Cameroonian level with Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood for fifth on the league scoring charts. Brentford remain in 11th position following Sunday's result.
Next week Brentford will get their opportunity to take advantage of Tottenham's struggles at home while Leicester travel to Everton with hopes of keeping the relegation zone at arm's length.
