New head coach of Medeama Sporting Club Ibrahim Tanko has expressed confidence in winning more trophies with the Ghana Premier League outfit.
The former Ghana and Borussia Dortmund striker joined the Mauve and Yellow after leaving his role as the Sporting Director of fellow Premier League side, Accra Lions.
Tanko, who once handled Ghana’s U-23 national team and assistant of the Black Stars, signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the two time Ghana FA Cup holders and he first expressed joy after joining the side.
“I feel blessed because I know Medeama not today and I’m friends to the president [of the club, Moses Armah] I think almost six or seven years and today I am here, I have found a new home and so definitely I am happy,” Tanko told Medeama SC media outlet.
“Medeama SC is one of the biggest clubs in the country when you look at the last ten years and what the team has achieved and with all the infrastructure and I think it is a very good choice for me and I think I can make it happen here.
Asked whether he will be under some form of pressure to bring in more trophies during his tenure, the former Cameroon assistant coach believes with time and hard work, the club’s fans should expect a better outing in the coming days.
“That’s the nature of sports we are in, we are always going to be better definitely the success is there like I said before and I am here also to achieve something so definitely before the end of my tenure, I am sure the cups will be more,” added Tanko.
Tanko’s major coaching credentials include stints as assistant to James Kwesi Appiah with Black Stars prior to occupying the same spot under German, Volke Finke with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
He was named the head of Ghana’s U-23, THE Black Meteors, a side he led to the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where he failed to qualify the team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
