In a surprising turn of events, Al Ahly has officially registered its legendary left-back Ali Maaloul in their squad for the current season.
This decision comes after a previous announcement from the Tunisian defender’s agent to the Egyptian website, Yallakora, that the player decided to leave the Al Ahly amid uncertainties regarding his future with the club.
Maaloul has been sidelined since May 2024 when he suffered a long-term Achilles tendon injury during the CAF Champions League final against Espérance.
Despite this major setback, Al Ahly supported the veteran left-back by extending his contract for another season, even though his previous deal had expired at the end of the last campaign.
However, despite signing a new contract, Maaloul was not registered at the start of the season due to his injury. He only returned to full training in January 2025 but his status with the club remains uncertain after being officially registered in February.
