Pyramids FC head coach Krunoslav Jurčić believes his team deserved to qualify for the final of the CAF Champions League.
Pyramids secured their spot in the final after a dramatic 3-2 victory over South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in Cairo, capitalizing on the goalless draw in the first leg played in South Africa.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the Croatian manager said, as quoted by FilGoal: "The match scenario was strange. If someone had told me at the start of the season that we would reach the final in this way, I wouldn’t have believed them. My team has improved significantly."
He added: "I wasn’t aware of Al Ahly’s defeat. Orlando Pirates played an excellent match and deserve praise for their performance."
Jurčić continued: "The final will be played at our home ground. I hope 35,000 fans fill the stadium because we’ll be playing in the name of Egypt."
He concluded: "My team reached the final because they deserve it. We don’t need support—just tell the players: you are in the final of Africa!"
Pyramids will face South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final, after Sundowns knocked out Al Ahly on away goals. The first leg in South Africa ended 0-0, before a 1-1 draw in Cairo sealed Sundowns' place in the final.
