Hani Said, the sporting director of Pyramids FC, revealed that the club has sent an official letter to the Egyptian Football Association confirming the cancellation of its previous decision to request a foreign refereeing crew for the team’s match against Al Ahly, scheduled for 12 April at the Air Defense Stadium in the second round of the Nile Egyptian League title decider phase.
The sporting director stated that the administration's decision to cancel the request for foreign referees and withdraw its commitment to cover their costs came after the decision of the Egyptian Clubs Association’s Board of Directors to overturn the deduction of three points from Al Ahly following their failure to attend their match against Zamalek in the first round of the title decider phase of the Nile Egyptian League.
Hani Said described this decision as harmful to the league’s competitiveness and a clear violation of the principle of fair competition among all participating clubs. He emphasized that Al Ahly’s withdrawal was a complete case of forfeiture, with clear penalties stipulated in the regulations, which had been applied in the same manner to Zamalek less than a year ago.
The sporting director added that, following the Clubs Association’s decision, it has become evident that the issue is not about referees but rather about the management of the league itself, the leniency in enforcing rules and regulations, and the inconsistency in applying standards, which undermines the principle of fair competition. Therefore, he stated that there is no need to bear thousands of dollars in expenses for a foreign refereeing crew if the real issue lies in the governance of the competition itself.
