Pyramids FC goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy stressed the importance of playing with great caution in Friday's upcoming clash against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates at 30 June Stadium.
El Shenawy warned against pushing forward recklessly in pursuit of victory, as the Buccanneers are a strong team with pace and quality. He emphasized that the draw in South Africa means nothing yet—scoring and qualifying are still essential.
Pyramids will host Orlando Pirates at 6:00 PM GMT on Friday in the second leg of the CAF Champions League semifinal following a goalless draw in the first leg in South Africa.
El Shenawy said: “Pyramids players have big ambitions to achieve something huge this season, and every player knows the responsibility on his shoulders. Our goal is to win the treble—league, cup, and Champions League. But for now, we must focus on qualifying for the final first before thinking about it.”
The Egyptian international goalkeeper added: “I hope Pyramids can score and qualify, and that the match doesn’t go to penalty shootouts to decide who reaches the final. But in any case, I’m fully prepared—along with the rest of the players—for any scenario. The players will fight to settle the match within regular time and secure the ticket without needing penalties.”
Regarding the potential final opponent, El Shenawy said: “Right now, it’s important to focus on qualifying first, as the team hasn’t reached the final yet. After that, I won’t worry too much about who we face—whether it’s Al Ahly or Sundowns—because Pyramids is ready for any opponent that comes next.”
He concluded: “I hope to win the Champions League title with Pyramids. I’ve reached the final once and the semifinal another time with Zamalek but luck wasn’t on my side. I hope this year will be different and that I can lift the trophy.”
