Qatar SC coach Youssef Al-Safri has said he expects South African football star Percy Tau, affectionately called Lion of Judah, to hit the ground running with the team.

He said this before Friday’s Qatari-Emirati Super Cup final they lost 5-1 to Emirati Al-Nasr Club at Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai.

Al-Safri spoke about the South African after naming him in the starting line-up for the final, saying he was a unique player who would bring value to his team.

“I thank the club’s management for their support for the team by bringing in the South African player Percy Tau, who has distinctive abilities and is a strong addition to the team,” he said.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward joined Qatar SC from Al Ahly of Egypt and Al-Safri said he does not expect him to take time to adapt.

“I believe that he will not need a long time to adapt in light of his presence alongside distinguished elements with high experience in the team that will help him integrate quickly,” he added.

The 30-year-old Bafana Bafana player moved to Qatar last week ending a trophy-laden four seasons with Al Ahly after signing for them from Brighton and Hove Albion. The speedy forward struggled for game-time with the Premier League team and was often shipped to Belgium teams for loan spells.
