Malawian Tabitha Chawinga's fine UEFA Women’s Champions League form continued after she scored to hand Olympique Lyonnais a 4-1 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.
The Scorchers skipper scored Lyon's second goal as they progressed to the UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final on a 5-1 aggregate from two legs, following the come-from-behind quarter-final, second-leg win in France.
Last week, the Scorchers skipper was also a target for the French side when they won the first-leg quarterfinal tie 2-0 in Germany. On Wednesday, Klara Buhi gave the visitors the lead after scoring in the 33rd minute before Melchi Durmonay leveled matters for the hosts a minute after restart.
Buhi had fired a low shot which hit the upright before bouncing into the net at the end of a blistering counterattack down the left channel. However, Durmonay hit back with a thumping header off a ball from the right after having scored in the first-leg.
The stage was now set for Lyon to vent their full anger on the visitors as Kadidiatu Dani extended the lead with a 54th-minute goal. Dani; the French International scored after intercepting a bad pass before pulling a powerful strike for the second goal.
Six minutes later, Diani turned into a creator, passing the ball to Chawinga, the Malawi captain to make it 3-1 and claim a double over the Germans after scoring in the 2-0 win in the away first leg.
Ada Hegeberg added the fourth goal in added time to send Bayern packing. The other second-leg quarter-final matches involved Arsenal and Real Madrid, Barcelona Wolfsburg, Manchester City, and Chelsea.
