Former Ghana international defender Richard Kissi Boateng has opened up on what makes South African club SuperSport United a worthwhile team to play for as either a young or experienced player.

Kissi Boateng, who cut his football teeth with now defunct Ghanaian club Liberty Professionals, played for SuperSport for two seasons between 2017 and 2019 winning the MTN 8 Tournament in 2017.

The left back, who once played for Libya outfit Al Ittihad Tripoli, spoke to Pan-Africa Football: “SuperSport is one of the biggest teams in South Africa, they have a very good record and their record in the South Africa league is one of the best,” Boateng said.

“If it comes to the South Africa league, they were able to win the title three times in a row which I don’t know if some of the clubs have done it. As things are going now, you know SuperSport has its season and has its own plans on how to handle things in terms of the South African league. I can say it’s one of the clubs which I can say know what they are doing if they want to win the league."

“So it has been a platform for every youth in South Africa but if they want to achieve the level of Mamelodi Sundowns, I think they know what to do. I have not been to Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates but if it comes to a well-organized team SuperSport is one of the best.” Richard Kissi Boateng told Pan-Africa Football.

Kissi Boateng played for Berekum Chelsea between 2011 and 2013, reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League with the Ghana Premier League side. He had a second spell at the club in 2020 after leaving the PSL giants. He signed a five-year deal with Congolese top tier side TP Mazembe in 2010 winning three domestic league titles, three Super Cups, one CAF Champions League, two CAF Confederation Cup and one CAF Super Cup.
