Uganda Cranes forward Rogers Kassim Mato has completed a move to North Macedonian record champions Vardar FC, making the switch from fellow top-flight side FK Brera Strumica where he has been since February 2024.

Mato who has a solid track record in European football enjoyed a productive spell at Brera Strumica, netting five goals and providing seven assists in 35 appearances.

His last outing for Brera saw him score a late goal in a 2-1 loss to Ukrainian side Veres Rivne in a friendly match last week in Antalya, Turkey. Vardar, who have won 11 league titles are currently battling relegation in the North Macedonian top tier, sitting second from bottom with just 13 points from 18 games.

Despite their struggles, Mato will be aiming to help steer the team to a respectable finish in the remainder of the season. The winger who has represented Uganda 25 times and scored three goals for the national team has previously played for Proline FC and KCCA FC in Uganda as well as Sanliurfaspor FC in the Turkish second division.

Vardar will hope Mato’s experience and attacking flair can help turn their fortunes around as they look to avoid relegation and climb up the table.
