Wydad Athletic Club manager Rulani Mokwena has described the Moroccan giants as more than a football club.

The South African said this on his return to Botola Pro League action against CODM on Saturday in a game that ended goalless.

“It is good to be back. I thank the staff, the physical trainer, and the doctors for holding the fort and doing an excellent job in my absence. That helps us move forward. We are looking forward to playing a difficult team,” he said.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns trainer thanked the Moroccan team family for supporting him after the death of his grandparent.

He said: “Wydad is more than a football club. We are an athletic club and a family that is together in good times and even bad moments we are even more together. I express heartfelt appreciation to the president and the board for the support that we received.”

Mokwena said he was confident in his team’s abilities, saying “there is only one team that has picked more points than us.”

He was unavailable last weekend when Wydad beat Chabab Mohammedi as he traveled back home to attend his grandmother’s funeral.

Mokwena’s side sit in second place, five points behind leaders RSB Berkane who they face on February 28, 2025. A win could have seen Wydad reducing the gap to the leaders to three points.
