Uganda Cranes striker Denis Omedi made a sensational Rwanda Premier League debut, scoring twice as APR FC secured a 2-1 victory over Kiyovu Sports Club on matchday 15 at Kigali Pele Stadium.
Kiyovu SC took an early lead in the 14th minute through Niyo David but Omedi responded swiftly, netting a spectacular equalizer in the 25th minute.
The former Kitara FC forward then sealed the win with a brilliant lobbed strike from outside the penalty area in the 41st minute giving APR FC all three points and closing the gap on league leaders Rayon Sports.
Omedi was later substituted in the second half, while fellow Ugandan Hakim Kiwanuka played the full 90 minutes and Taddeo Lwanga remained on the bench.
APR FC, Rwanda’s most successful club with 22 league titles, fielded all three of their new signings Omedi, Kiwanuka and Cheick Ouattara.
The forward had already impressed last week, scoring from the penalty spot in APR FC’s 2-0 victory over Emmanuel Okwi’s AS Kigali in the Heroes Cup semifinals on January 29.
APR FC now sit second on the table with 34 points from 16 games and will return to action on Sunday, February 16 against third-placed AS Kigali.
