Ugandan forward Hakim Kiwanuka is eager to make an impact as APR FC faces arch-rivals Rayon Sports in the highly anticipated 1000 Hills Derby at Amahoro Stadium in the Rwanda Premier League on Sunday.

With Rayon Sports leading the table on 42 points and defending champions APR FC close behind on 40, this clash carries massive title implications. Kiwanuka is determined to help APR secure victory and take pole position.

“It’s derby day, and every player dreams of shining in such big games. This is the biggest fixture in Rwandan football, and my first derby as a player here. I want to help my team win so that we go top of the table. I thrive in big atmospheres, and the crowd only pushes me to work harder. We have trained well, and we know only a win will take us to the summit,” Kiwanuka told Pan-Africa Football.

The Ugandan forward, who joined APR FC in January alongside countryman Denis Omedi from SC Villa, scored his first goal for the club last weekend in a crucial win against Police FC.

Now, he aims to build on that momentum in Rwanda’s biggest football showdown. APR FC's Taddeo Lwanga is the other Ugandan set to feature in this high-stakes derby.

With only two points separating the two sides, a win for APR will see them leapfrog their rivals to reclaim top spot.
