Winners of the last five Rwanda Premier League titles, APR FC, kept up the chase on rivals Rayon Sports with a 2-1 victory over Marines FC on Wednesday. Jean Bosco Ruboneka's goal in second half stoppage time confirmed a comeback victory for the reigning champions who also announced the signing of Uganda national team players Hakim Kiwanuka and Denis Omedi.

Following a scoreless first half, Marines got off to a dream start in the second half when Olivier Usabimana latched onto a defense splitting pass and finished past Congo Brazzaville national team goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila.

Ten minutes later the response came in explosive fashion from APR when Alain Kwitonda's excellent effort from distance leveled the match. Rwanda national team midfielder Ruboneka confirmed a tight victory deep into second half stoppage time. APR now trail Rayon Sports by five points in the title chase in what is quickly becoming a two-horse race.

Seen attending the match were APR's latest signings Kiwanuka and Omedi. The two Ugandans were unveiled as APR attempts to gain ground by adding more firepower to the attack. Kiwanuka scored five goals this season for SC Villa and provides an attacking midfield presence.

Omedi was second on the top scorer charts in the Uganda Premier League last season with Kitara FC, bagging 15 goals in 28 appearances while emerging as a regular with the Uganda Cranes. He appeared in all six matches of Uganda's successful qualifying campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring goals in the 2-2 draw at South Africa as well as Uganda's 2-1 victory at South Sudan.
