The football community is mourning the tragic passing of Vipers SC striker Abubakar Lawal, who reportedly lost his life in a road accident on Monday.
According to emerging details, Lawal had taken a friend to Entebbe international Airport and on his way back to training, he was involved in a fatal motor accident. Vipers SC have issued a statement confirming the heartbreaking news.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden and untimely passing of our beloved player, Abubakar Lawal, who left us this Monday morning,” read part of the statement from Vipers. “His body has been transferred to a medical facility for postmortem examination.
“Funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course. Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The Nigerian ace last featured for Vipers on February 16th coming on as a substitute in their 2-0 Uganda Premier League victory over KCCA FC. He was also on the bench during Vipers’ recent 2-0 win over Mbarara City in the Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 32.
The former AS Kigali, Kano Pillars FC, Wikki Tourists FC and FC Nasarawa joined the Venoms from AS Kigali in 2022 after winning the Kigali Peace Cup in the 2021/22 season.
Last season, he netted five goals for the club but was yet to score in eight appearances this campaign. Rest in Peace, Lawal.
