Current Algerian Football Federation (FAF) president Walid Sadi officially announced his candidature for February’s elective general assembly. The incumbent has led FAF since September 2023.

FAF adopted a new statute for the election and Sadi did not take long to announce his candidacy. The 45-year-old football administrator thanked the general assembly for unanimously adopting the new statute.

Sadi stated to Algerian television that the general assembly wants stability. “The members are asking for stability. I announce that I will run for a new term. We must thank the GA because it was a unanimous Yes! This is the beginning of a new era with a new statute.”

After failing to progress beyond the group stage at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, many Algerian fans called for change in FAF. Sadi first appeared in a FAF election in 2021 where he was forced to withdraw. Sadi promised to work more on reforms to bring Algerian football back to its glory days.

Sadi, who happens to be Algeria's Minister of Sports, will bid for a new term when the election kicks off on 27th of February.
