Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has called on the club management to solve the situation surrounding Egypt forward Mohamed Salah insisting the delay means “he is closer to leaving than staying.”

The 32-year-old has been a transfer subject with several reports indicating that he could leave the Anfield outfit for Saudi Arabia. Weighing in on the matter, Lovren expressed his desire for the player to stay insisting what he was doing for the club was exceptional.

“I have to be careful what I say now because I know a lot of things,” Lovren admitted as quoted by GiveMeSport. “Everyone wants him to stay, and I personally want that too. I called him the other day and said, ‘Mo, you have to think about yourself. Look at everything I’ve done for this club and what I’m still capable of doing.’”

“I came to the conclusion that the club doesn’t respect him enough, or not as much as he thinks he deserves, but that’s another side of the conversation. It’s all about what’s going on behind the scenes. Salah believes that there are things missing from the club’s side, and I hope it will be resolved soon.”

Lovren concluded: “But the current reality is that he is closer to leaving than staying.”

Salah has scored 21 Premier League goals this season, which is the most by a player in the competition in 2024/2025, whilst he also ranks first for Premier League assists this season having assisted 13 goals for his team-mates.
