Former Ghana defender Samuel Osei Kuffour has credited German giants Bayern Munich for shaping his life and professional career.

The rugged centre-back spent over a decade with the Bavarians, lifting important trophies including the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Kuffour, who signed for the record Bundesliga title holders from Italian side, Torino, spoke to Accra based SportyFM.

"Bayern Munich made me who I am today. They took me as their own, acted as my agent, and guaranteed me a passport. It’s a blessing to be part of the Bayern family," Kuffour told Sporty FM.

The former King Faisal Babes defender joined Torino at 15-years in 1991 after a bright performance with Ghana’s U-17 national team in the FIFA World Junior championship in Italy.

After joining Bayern Munich two years later from Torino, he went on a season’s long loan at FC Nurnberg before returning to command a regular shirt.

He has appeared at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany for the Black Stars with five Africa Cup of nations under his belt.

The 48-year-old was a member of Ghana U-23 Olympic team that claimed bronze at the 1996 tournament in Barcelona, Spain.
