Ghana international Kofi Kyereh has grappled with incessant injures for over two years, limiting his playing time at Bundesliga side, SC Freiburg and the national team, the Black Stars.
The 29-year-old suffered a second cruciate ligament tear in February 2023 but made significant progress until July 2024 when he had another surgery after aggravating the injury.
The forward’s journey to recuperation from the knee injury has improved with head coach of Freiburg, Julian Schuster remaining cautiously optimistic about Kofi Kyereh’s recovery.
At a press conference before facing Borussia Monchengladbach, Schuster shared a hopeful update. “Kofi has been suffering for a long time. Two years is a really long time. Nevertheless, there have been positive moments recently," said the coach, who’s yet to field Kyereh in his lineup.
"He’s mostly been playing individually. Nevertheless, he’s already participated in some of our training sessions at the start. These are moments that make us feel positive,”
Kyereh has made 18 appearances for the Black Stars of Ghana and none for Freiburg this season.
