Sekhukhune United have, as widely speculated, unveiled Bafana Bafana legend Eric Tinkler as the Betway Premiership team's new coach days after sacking Lehlohonolo Seema.

In a statement, Babina Noko's chairperson Simon Malatji confirmed hiring the former Cape Town City trainer to lead Sekhukhune who lie in seventh place in the standings.

"We are honoured to have an experienced mentor like Tinkler, in charge of our project," he said.

Sekhukhune describes “Eric as a forward-thinking leader who is ready to take on an ambitious team like Babina Noko.”

Tinkler, a 1996 AFCON winner with Bafana Bafana, will be deputized by Paulus Masehe, Marc Van Heerden, and goalkeeper coach Nascent Nkhwashu.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder previously won the MTN 8 and Telkom Knockout tournaments and reached numerous finals in the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and other domestic competitions.

The man, whose best-place finish in the league was second position, has previously managed PSL teams such as Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Maritzburg United, and Chippa United.

Tinkler belongs to a golden generation of Bafana Bafana players from the mid-1990s alongside the likes of Neil Tovey, Mark Williams, Helman Mkhalele, John Moshoeu, Linda Buthelezi, Doctor Khumalo, Sizwe Motaung, Andre Arendse, Lucas Radebe and Mark Fish.
