The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) have filed a complaint to CAF over a disallowed goal in the U-17 Women's World Cup qualifying game against Ivory Coast over the weekend. Ivory Coast progressed after beating Senegal on the away goals after the tie ended in a 2-2 aggregate draw.
The Senegalese U-17 women's side thought they snatched the win deep into the stoppage time courtesy of Coumba Sangouthe’s strike that went over the line. Nonetheless the match referee did not rule it a goal. Replays showed the ball went over the goal line but the assistant referee failed to see it. This prompted FSF to file a complaint to CAF.
Senegal U-17 women national team coach Lena Gomis told Wiwsport that she is very infuriated with the officiating. “There is this very clear goal. If the ball had been on the line we might have had doubts. But here the ball crossed the line completely, almost by a meter. It's very serious. Now, it is up to the federation to react. They injustice should be repaired. We can't be eliminated like this.”
CAF is expected to decide the final outcome of the encounter. Until then Ivory Coast is set for a date against Burundi in the second qualifying round.
