Italian Serie A side US Lecce has provided an encouraging club and country update on burly Zambian winger Lameck Banda’s recovery from injury. Lecce issued the update on Thursday when their squad resumed training at Via del Mar ahead of their Serie A league game at Genoa on Sunday.

Giving an update via their website, the Italian side said Banda was still undergoing physiotherapy from a knee injury he suffered during a Serie A match against Empoli in mid-November, 2024: “Marchwiński rested due to a fever, Berisha did some personalized work while Banda and Gaspar continued their therapies,” Lecce website reads.

The Chipolopolo star is expected to take part in Serie A action this season for Lecce who are smarting from a 2-0 loss to Cesc Fabregas-led Como FC on December 30, 2024. The Zambian winger was conspicuously absent from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Group G qualifying matches against Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone in November 2024.

Avram Grant’s men won both final qualifying matches, beating Sierra Leone 2-0 in West Africa and the Indomitable Lions 1-0 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the mining town of Ndola to seal their place at the next AFCON finals as group leaders, a point ahead of defending AFCON champions Ivory Coast.

Morocco will host the 35th edition of the AFCON finals from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
