Sevilla head coach Garcia Pimienta has admitted that Nigeria striker Kelechi Iheanacho has failed to perform to his expectations and could leave the Spanish club this transfer window.

The Super Eagles star joined Sevilla on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Leicester City on July 31, 2024. He made the move after scoring six goals in 26 matches in all competitions for the Foxes, and helping them to lift the EFL Championship title, to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

However, he has had a troubling time in Spain, where out of nine matches, he is yet to find the back of the net nor create an assist. His performances have raised eyebrows among pundits and reacting to whether he will leave the club, Pimienta admitted to have received offers for his services.

“For whatever reason, Iheanacho has not performed here at the level that we all expect, including him,” Pimienta said as quoted by SABC Sports. “If he improves what we have, there are no problems. I don't know why some players fit in better with a club or an environment than others.”

Asked whether he will stay at the club, Pimienta said: “I don't know if Kelechi will stay until the end of the season. There have been offers for him, he is established in England and I'm sure he wants to play more. I understand that he wants to leave.

“With his CV there are things that cannot be explained. Watching him train you say, 'this kid has plenty of quality'. After the injury, I don’t know, but before Christmas, he was at his weight. This week is the first that he may be able to train with the group. Iheanacho is part of the squad and if he has to play, he will play.”
