Sevilla winger Chidera Ejuke has backed his struggling club and national teammate Kelechi Iheanacho to find his lost form.
The Super Eagles duo joined the Spanish La Liga side last summer with Ejuke settling into life with ease and winning the club’s Player of the Month for September in the process.
However, compatriot Iheanacho has struggled to find his feet barely getting minutes and goals and has been linked with a January exit. While Ejuke has played 10 league games and earned praise, former Leicester City forward Iheanacho has managed nine appearances but has only scored in Copa del Rey matches against lower division clubs while failing to find the net in La Liga play.
Ejuke, who recently returned from a high-degree hamstring tear, revealed adaptation might be a struggle for players who switch clubs:
“When you get to a new place you have to get used to everything, the style of football, you have to get used to your teammates, culture, the atmosphere, you have to get used to it, but I’m happy,” the former Hertha Berlin man said in an interview with El Correo.
Speaking about Kelechi Iheanacho’s poor form, Ejuke admitted the former Leicester City striker’s confidence is on the low. However he has backed his fellow Nigerian to come out of his shells and prove his worth.
“I wouldn’t say things aren’t going well for him. I think as a player you obviously need confidence and sometimes it doesn’t happen right away, but I think it’s all a matter of confidence and when you get the confidence you get going. For all players, it’s normal to go through this.” Ejuke said.
Iheanacho has been linked with a number of clubs both in Europe and in the Saudi Pro League. The recent club to step up its interest in the former Manchester City player is English EFL Championship club Leeds United. Sevilla currently sit 11th on the La Liga table with 26 points from 20 league games played this season.
