Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has admitted to being disappointed with the two goals they conceded against Kagera Sugar in their Mainland Premier League fixture on Saturday.

The Wekundu wa Msimbazi stretched their league winning streak to seven matches with a decisive 5-2 victory at Kagera Sugar, moving to the top of the table and a point clear of nearest challengers Azam FC.

Experienced fullbacks Mohamed Hussein and Shomari Kapombe combined to give the visitors the lead before Simba's foreign contingent handled the rest. A brace arrived from Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala as well as goals from Jean Charles Ahoua and Fabrice Ngoma for the Reds who were never threatened by the hosts.

Simba took the lead in the 12th minute through right back Kapombe who arrived to finish from a Hussein cross for a rare goal. Kagera Sugar, who look set for a relegation battle this season, kept the match close until just before halftime when Ivorian forward Ahoua curled a free kick in off the crossbar and just over the goal line.

Ngoma and Mukwala both scored in the second half to extend the lead to four goals before Kagera Sugar finally responded towards the 80th minute. Speaking after the game the South African coach admitted he was not happy they had conceded two goals.

“As long as we keep our principles when we have the ball then I think we will continue to perform and get required results and I want to thank my players for scoring five goals but extremely disappointed that we conceded two,” Davids told Pan-Africa Football.

“We cannot accept these you know, conceding goals is something we need to work on because it is not the standard we want to set, normally in any game we have to keep a clean sheet but again it is not a defensive issue but a mentality issue.

“The changes we made to the squad actually made us stronger but we need to fight always until the end and that is the mentality we are trying to bring into the team and we will definitely analyse it and go into detail and point out exactly what we need to fix because we cannot be happy with conceding two goals today (Saturday).”
