Tanzania Mainland Premier League club Singida Black Stars have threatened to take Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia to the world governing body over the saga surrounding the transfer of midfielder Rooney Onyango.
According to Singida, the club paid Gor Mahia a sum of USD 40,000 (approximately Kshs. 5,170,000 at current rates) as transfer fee for the Harambee Stars player but the Kenyan club later refused to release him.
In a letter from the Tanzanian club addressed to Gor Mahia CEO, the two clubs had already reached an agreement for the transfer of the player hence their decision to send the said amount. However, the deal never materialized has Onyango stayed at Gor Mahia.
Singida have now warned Gor Mahia to refund the transfer fee in the next 14 days or else they will report the matter to FIFA for further action.
“Our Club wrote to your Club on 3.1.2025 requesting your club to kindly refund the said amount of USD 40,000 since the transfer did not materialize due to your fault,” read part of the letter from Singida.
“It is unfortunate that to date we have not received any response to our letter nor have we received the refund. In the same context, your club is given 14 days within which to pay the outstanding balance of 40,000 USD.”
The statement added: “Failure to do so our club will refer the matter to FIFA for breach of our agreement.”
