Burundi Football Federation (FFB) discipline and ethics committee has banned six players and one football official after they were found guilty of match fixing. Five of the players and the official are from topflight side Deira FC.

The committee banned those involved in match fixing from footballing activity for the next five years. The players of Deira that are banned are goalkeeper Epimaque Nzoyisaba, Glorie Mwamba, Mossl Moussa, Jules Masumbuko, Hussein Ntahouturi and Ramadhan Shaban.

Inter Star player Kevin Hakizimana is also involved in the scandal as FFB penalized him for his role. Technical director Jafari Jumapili is also implicated in the fiasco.

FFB officially stated the players and officials worked to manipulate and influence Burundian top-flight games for certain betting companies. The Federation carried out an investigation on the case and found out a third party was involved in the match fixing scandal.

American and Kenyan nationals worked with Nzoyisaba so that the goalkeeper could manipulate the results. The games that were said to be influenced were Deira vs Vital’O and Olympic Star.

The players are also penalized to pay 10,000,000 Burundi Franc (3,371 USD) until May 10, 2025 to avoid further suspension.
