Liverpool manager Arne Slot was full of praise for Egypt international Mohamed Salah following his defensive role in the 4-1 Premier League victory against Ipswich Town at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds maintained their pace at the top of the table with a dominant performance with three goals before the interval courtesy of Dominik Szoboszlai, Salah and Cody Gakpo putting them ahead.

Gakpo later headed in his second and Liverpool’s fourth of the day from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s fine cross, wrapping up a third victory in eight days, with Jacob Greaves responding in the last minute for Ipswich.

Speaking after the game, Slot admitted that he was impressed with Salah's style of play, saying apart from scoring goals, he was very important in falling back to help defenders when in danger of conceding from counter attacks.

“It’s also nice that you come up with it because mostly about Mo it’s about his contract or about his goals, and now it’s about his defensive work-rate,” said Slot as quoted by the club’s official website.

“That stood out because it was a moment we could all see, but I think if you look at almost all the times we lost the ball, I saw a reaction of many players like that.

“That is what I mean with playing against a team with fast wingers, with a good No.9, that goes to such a low block. It’s so difficult to control the counter-attack and the only way to do so is what Mo did in this moment and all the other players did in different moments. That’s why I was pleased with our performance today.”

Out of 22 Premier League matches this season, Salah has scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists.
