Going two matches without a victory is almost cause for panic after all the success that South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns and their supporters are accustomed to. After a surprise defeat in the final of the Carling Knockout Cup to Magesi which was followed by an underwhelming scoreless draw at home against Congolese club Maniema Union, Sundowns are back in the winning column following a 3-0 victory on Saturday against Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership.
Sundowns took the lead at home in the 22nd minute when Aubrey Modiba's cross from the left wing was turned into his own net by Sekhukhune defender Tresor Yamba. High priced Brazilian forward signing Arthur Sales scored his first Sundowns goal from the penalty spot early in the second half and Iqraam Rayners added one more late in the match. Sundowns are equal at the top on 21 points with Orlando Pirates who host Stellenbosch tomorrow.
On the other hand, inconsistency continues to be the theme for Kaizer Chiefs who left the Amakhosi family screaming due to frustration earlier in the day. A two-goal lead created in the opening quarter hour through goals from Ashley du Preez and Wandile Duba evaporated in the second half against visitors Royal AM in Johannesburg.
Maxwele Ayabulela tallied early in the second half and Levy Mashiane scored the equalizer late on for Royal AM to leave Chiefs in 6th position on 11 points. Elsewhere, AmaZulu earned their second consecutive victory while Magesi fell to defeat at Chippa United and SuperSport United fell at home to Marumo Gallants on Friday.
