South African Morena Ramoreboli has inevitably been unveiled as the new coach for Botswana's senior men’s national football team, the Zebras.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) President, Oabile Tariq Babitseng, announced the appointment of Ramoreboli on Thursday in Gaborone. “The South African-born coach will take the helm of the Zebras for a two-year term,” BFA’s statement reads.

Ramoreboli has earned the big post for the 2025 AFCON finals-bound Zebras weeks after parting ways with Botswana Premiership side, Jwaneng Galaxy FC, with whom he made a name as an astute tactician.

The 43-year-old stepped in the shoes of Didier Gomes da Rosa for the Zebras' 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualification campaign and managed to steer the ship to the finals.

The Frenchman resigned weeks before the remaining Afcon qualifiers in October citing a poor working relationship with newly elected Babitseng. Da Rosa quit after two back-to-back wins over Cape Verde in the Afcon qualifiers to pick a job at Al Ahli Tripoli in Libya.

The South African oversaw two draws, including one-all against Mauritania to book the Zebras the flight to Morocco. Botswana earned the Afcon spot after a hard-fought one-all draw in Egypt last month to take their tally to eight points, six behind the Pharaohs.

The Zebras are making their second appearance at the Afcon finals after having done so over a decade ago.
