Ssenyondo names final squad as Uganda Cubs fly out for 2025 AFCON U-17 tournament

The Uganda U-17 national football team, the Cubs, have departed for Morocco ahead of the 2025 AFCON U-17 tournament, scheduled to run from March 30 to April 19.


Head coach Brian Ssenyondo finalized his 22-man squad before the team flew out of Uganda on Thursday evening.


Uganda, placed in Group A, will face hosts Morocco in their opening match at El Bachir Stadium on March 30, before taking on Tanzania and Zambia in the group stage.


The tournament also serves as a qualification pathway for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar later this year, with the top 10 African teams securing slots.

The delegation is led by John Chrizestom Kalibala, while Brian Ssenyondo will be assisted by Ronald Ssali and Kenneth Magada who is the goalkeeping coach. Other key officials include fitness coach Simoen Massa, trainer Dennis Kizito, team manager Bashir Mutyaba, team doctors Micheal Kamu Gumisiriza and Ivan Kulika, Kits manager Ddamba Veron team Media officer Joel Kivumbi and Peter Mbogo who is the delegation staff.


Before their tournament opener, the Cubs will hold additional training sessions and engage in friendly matches to fine-tune their preparations. Uganda will be aiming to make a statement in Morocco and secure a historic qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
