The Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 kicked off with two fixtures on Monday afternoon, as defending champions Kitara FC visited Big League side Gaddafi FC while Maroons FC hosted Police FC in Luzira.
In Entebbe, Maroons FC took the lead through captain Tomas Kakaire, but Fred Amaku equalized before the break, leveling the score.
In the second half, the hosts dominated, seeking to restore their lead, but Kitara's defense held firm. John Byaruhanga scored his first goal in a Kitara jersey, doubling the visitors' lead and they defended it until the final whistle. Kitara progressed to the quarterfinals, aiming to defend their title.
In Luzira, Denis Kalanzi netted the only goal, sending Police FC to the last eight. Kalanzi headed in a rebound inside the box, putting the visitors ahead in just nine minutes. Despite dominating the entire game, Maroons FC failed to penetrate Police's defense, bowing out of the cup on their home turf.
It's worth noting that the winner of the Stanbic Uganda Cup will represent Uganda in the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup.
