Aliro’s penalty sends URA past Mabira
URA FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mabira TC, with Moses Aliro’s second-half penalty proving decisive.
Despite a slow first half with limited goal-scoring opportunities, URA’s persistence paid off in the 53rd minute when Aliro expertly converted from the spot, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe and Joseph Ssemujju came close to doubling the lead but were denied, while Ssemujju saw a late effort ruled out for offside.
Nsibambi brace lifts KCCA past Kuluva Rainbow
In Arua, KCCA FC overcame a spirited Kuluva Rainbow FC side with a 2-1 win to book their spot in the Round of 16.
Derrick Nsibambi struck twice in quick succession, scoring in the 3rd and 7th minutes to put KCCA in control early. Kuluva Rainbow pulled one back before halftime, but KCCA’s defense held firm in the second half to seal the win.
The victory boosts KCCA’s hopes of clinching an 11th Uganda Cup title, a feat they last achieved in 2018 with a 1-0 win over Vipers. They remain tied with Express FC as the tournament’s most decorated clubs, each with 10 titles, followed by SC Villa with nine.
Blacks Power stun NEC, Gaddafi and UPDF progress
At Lugogo, FUFA Big League side Blacks Power pulled off a major upset, eliminating last season’s finalists NEC FC with a 2-0 victory at MTN Omondi Stadium.
Elsewhere, Gaddafi FC put on a dominant display to see off Bushenyi Veterans 3-1, thanks to first-half strikes from Ronald Bithum, Junior Kawawa, and Duncan Sseninde.
UPDF FC needed penalties to edge past Packwach Young Stars after a goalless draw, winning the shootout 7-6 to secure their Round of 16 spot.
