Stellenbosch Football Club Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rob Benadie has paid tribute to midfielder Jayden Adams who has completed a switch to fellow South Africa top-flight league side, Mamelodi Sundowns.
In a statement, Benadie hailed the youthful midfielder as the finest product of their academy team. “Jayden Adams’ development and growth as a footballer is the epitome of what the club strives to achieve—being a pipeline for local talent and providing a platform for young players to develop and thrive,” he said.
“His journey from the academy to becoming a full international and one of the most sought-after players in the country is a testament to his immense talent and the club’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. We can only wish him every success at Mamelodi Sundowns.”
Adams became Stellenbosch Academy’s first graduate to earn first-team promotion when he signed a professional contract in 2020. The 23-year-old made his senior club debut the same 2020 season and then made 139 appearances, the second most in the West Cape Town team’s history.
The rising Bafana Bafana player helped the Stellies secure the 2023 Carling Knockout title, earn the CAF Confederation Cup qualification and a maiden appearance in the prestigious group stages of the continental competition.
The attacking midfielder was part of the Bafana Bafana squad that won a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Ivory Coast. Sundowns announced the player’s signing on three-and-a-year-half contract on Saturday.
