Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has lauded his players for learning different ways of winning as they compete on local and continental fronts.
He said this after their 1-0 win over AmaZulu FC in a Betway Premiership match on a windy Tuesday evening at Danie Craven Stadium.
“We had to find a way to win. It wasn’t pretty football as it was a bit windy and on a bumpy pitch. It is good that we are learning to win games in different formats and ways. Credit to the players. It is a massive three points. Now, we can concentrate on Simba SC [this Sunday],” he told SuperSport Television.
The 57-year-old coach added that it was difficult getting maximum points in the domestic league while also focusing on the CAF Confederation Cup assignments.
“It is a massive win. It is not easy competing on all fronts, so today the players showed a massive character test in difficult conditions against a good team,” he said.
Striker Sanele Barns’ first-half goal handed Stellenbosch FC a 1-0 win over AmaZulu FC to move into third place.
The Western Cape side has since switched attention to Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup semifinal, first-leg meeting with Simba SC in Tanzania.
