Stellenbosch FC striker Andre de Jong has urged his teammates to transfer their CAF Confederation Cup-winning momentum into South Africa’s Betway Premiership.
The New Zealander said this ahead of Wednesday’s Betway Premiership encounter against wounded Kaizer Chiefs who are smarting from a 1-0 loss to Cape Town City over the weekend.
“Our focus has shifted to Wednesday’s match against Kaizer Chiefs first though, and I think we’ve been buoyed by a big result from the weekend and hopefully we can carry our recent CAF form into the league,” he said.
De Jong said their back-to-back Group B wins over CD Lunda Sul, including beating the Angolans 2-0 over the weekend, should motivate coach Steve Barker's side to do well against Chiefs.
“The mood in camp is nice and positive...I think everyone is in a good space and looking forward to capping off the week with a good result against Kaizer Chiefs," he said.
Chiefs lie in seventh place a distant 15 points behind holders and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns whereas Stellenbosch sit fifth with 16 points.
The match between Chiefs and Stellenbosch will take place at FNB Stadium at 19h30. SuperSport 206 will broadcast the match live.
