Coach Miguel Cardoso has reacted to his first win in the domestic league of South Africa after presiding over a 1-1 victory over Stellenbosch at DHL Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.
In a post-match interview with SuperSport Television, the former Esperance coach explained why Stellenbosch, the CAF Confederation Cup participants posed a threat to his side.
“It is important to understand how difficult it is to play here in terms of how they play,” he said. “They are always looking for the long ball and not trying to build up play so it is difficult to press,” he said.
The Portuguese also said his side struggled for rhythm after playing over the weekend in a CAF Champions League group stage game against Raja Casablanca. "We managed in the first 15 minutes. We understood how we have to start the game using the spaces we found at the back," he said.
On Wednesday, in-form Iqraam Rayners scored for the Betway Premiership holders with a rising shot squeezed in from a tight angle in the 18th minute. Lunga won the man-of-the-match accolade after impressing with his solid defensive duties.
The Portuguese mentor started his reign with a 1-0 home win over Raja Casablanca over the weekend in a CAF Champions League after replacing Mangoba Mngqithi last week.
