Mamelodi Sundowns defender Divine Lunga celebrated his Betway Premiership man-of-the-match performance against Stellenbosch by thanking his girlfriend for supporting him.
The Zimbabwean made a rare appearance for the South African champions as they battled to a 1-0 win over Stellenbosch at DHL Cape Town Stadium to hand coach Miguel Cardoso a winning debut in the South African league.
In a post-match interview with SuperSport Television, the former Golden Arrows left-back said he owed his solid performance to a strong family support system. “I want to thank god, my family, and my girlfriend for supporting me as well. Today’s performance was for the team. Today, everyone put in their energy. We fought as a team.
“It wasn’t easy for me but the good thing is that we trained for it so I knew when I could go. At Sundowns, everyone is always ready so if you get an opportunity, you must be ready,” he said.
Sundowns have since gone three points clear of second-placed Orlando Pirates after playing one more game. Iqraam Rayners scored for the Betway Premiership holders who must now pay attention to the next league assignment against revitalized AmaZulu FC on December 24, 2024, before facing struggling Richards Bay four days later.
