Despite Mamelodi Sundowns opening a 15 point gap ahead of rivals Orlando Pirates following their 4-2 Betway Premiership win against Sekhukhune United, coach Miguel Cardoso was left fuming with the schedule of matches terming it ‘insane and not normal’.
In the fixture at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, the Brazilians scored through Thapelo Morena, Lucas Suarez, Lucas Ribeiro, and Arthur Sales to extend their lead at the summit and kept alive their hopes of retaining the crown.
However, the win left Cardoso fuming despite bagging maximum points from a stubborn side. He told SuperSport TV as quoted by idiskitimes: “I can only repeat it, it’s absolutely insane what’s happening to Sundowns.
“The schedule is insane, it’s not normal. It doesn’t respect the human being and I think it should be fought and well-considered because I don’t know how it’s possible.”
On the two goals Sundowns conceded, Cardoso said: “Unfortunately we suffered this stupid second goal. It was not my plan. In this moment, there is no need for this. Overconfidence sometimes makes you make mistakes.
“In that moment I was preparing two substitutions to replace two players and I could not do them. I should not have pushed the players to such limits but we needed to win today and then we think about tomorrow.”
Sundowns, will have a day rest, before returning to action with a fixture against Kaizer Chiefs at at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.
