Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane has extended his contract with the Betway Premiership champions by a year, a reward for his influence on and off the pitch.
The Betway Premiership team confirmed the contract extension for the 35-year-old, who has spent 14 years with the Pretoria-based side.
The Bafana Bafana playmaker joined Sundowns in 2011 from amateur team, Vardos FC, then went to Mpumalanga Black Aces for a loan spell before rejoining the Brazilians.
The soft-spoken player has won over three Betway Premiership championships with Sundowns.
Most notably, the player affectionately called Mshishi, was a regular for the history-making side that won the CAF Champions League title in 2016, the only time the Pretoria giants have laid their hands on the continental title.
Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed Zwane's recovery from a lengthy injury lay-off ahead of Saturday’s CAF Champions League semifinal, first leg game against Al Ahly.
"Themba is growing in his condition. I told you that we had a plan to bring back the players that were injured—because now Themba is not injured-normally and bring his condition up so he can play," Cardoso told the South African Broadcasting Corporation.
Mshishi was sidelined in October 2024 when he suffered an Achilles injury while on international duty with Bafana Bafana.
