Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has blamed the team’s shock defeat to TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership to lacking energy despite being the dominant side.
The Brazilians suffered their first defeat in 10 matches after Kamogelo Sebelebele scored the only goal of the game at the Mbombela Stadium in the 44th minute, to steer his side into fourth place on the league standings with 25 points from 17 games.
Tuesday's defeat came after Sundowns had registered an emphatic 4-1 win against rivals Orlando Pirates and speaking after the game, Cardoso bemoaned the congested fixtures which saw them play after only 72 hours.
“We were dominant all game, TS Galaxy defended all game,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV as quoted by idiskitimes. “Obviously we didn’t have the energy that we needed. Fourth match in 72 hours and we were penalised because of that.
“I think we had the better chances and we should have scored, but we were penalised with the goal in the last minute of the first half and we had no energy in the second one.
“The lesson is continue to look forward and continue to work. I always said that it’s going to be a long championship, no one heard me say nothing different than that. So my position today is exactly that. We will rise from today and we will finish stronger.”
Despite the defeat, Sundowns remained top of the log with 42 points, from 16 games, nine clear of Pirates in second place.
