Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thapelo Morena has revealed their seriousness towards the Betway Premiership fixture against Magesi FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday.

The Brazilians will shift their focus following their success to qualify for the quarter-finals of the lucrative Caf Champions League competition. Masandawana's last league fixture saw them beat Richards Bay 2-0, their last of the 2024 campaign.

“I think the mentality is going to be the same. The hunger will be the same because it’s different in the PSL. We played against Magesi in the final and we did not have a good result, so we are going to take it a notch up,” said Morena as quoted by Sundowns website.

Morena further explained why a win against Magesi will be a boost for their chances to defend the title, saying they are aware rivals Orlando Pirates are very close behind them.

“We want to fix our record in the league and we know that Orlando Pirates who are second on the log are just three points behind us. We need to try to level up and open the gap,” he explained.

“If we continue winning, we know it’s going to be difficult for other teams to catch up. And also, when you win and the other team wins, it’s good because it pushes us because we are preparing for the Champions League also,” Morena concluded.

The league fixture will kick off at 19H30, and will be live on SuperSport TV.
