Three time African champions, Nigeria will look to take another bite of winning the Africa Cup of Nations when 24 countries assemble in North Africa for the expanded festival.

The Super Eagles have been paired in group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania for the tournament billed for Morocco later this year.

Out of the three opponents, Tunisia stands out as the toughest challenge, given their history of knocking the Super Eagles out of the 2021 tournament with a 1-0 victory in the Round of 16.

Following what looks like a tough pairing for one of the best nations on the continent, former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has advised the team to approach the tournament with caution.

In an interview with Brila.net, Adepoju emphasized the need for proper preparation, particularly against Tunisia, in what could serve as a repeat of their 2021 AFCON encounter.

“There is no small team in Africa anymore. We just have to prepare very well and play our best when the time comes. On paper, it doesn’t look easy, but it’s not inaccessible either,” he said.

When asked about the potential for revenge against Tunisia, Adepoju dismissed the notion, stressing the importance of focus.

“There’s no need for revenge. We just need to concentrate. We know what happened in that game, but I believe this time, we are going to win.”

Their last tournament glory came in 2013, and they will be aiming to restore glory after narrowly losing the 2023 final to Côte d’Ivoire to the host nation.

The 2025 AFCON is set to kick off on December 21 through to January 2026.
